A lunch club at a church in High Wycombe joined in the VE Day celebrations at the weekend with a special themed meal where members recalled their memories of the occasion 70 years ago.

St. Andrews Church lunch club - which meets every Wednesday - had a day to remember, with all the guests dressing up amid special memorabilia.

Around 40 guests with first hand memories of VE Day guests donned outfits - head scarves and rollers for the ladies, and caps for the men.

They tucked into leek and potato pie followed by rice pudding while listening to war time music and shared their own special memories of what they were doing 70 years ago on VE Day.

After lunch the diners took part in a VE Day quiz followed by tea and union jack cakes.

Many of the guest brought in their own memorabilia from VE Day photos, documents and newspaper articles arranged in a display.

And the day ended with a minutes silence to remember those that lost their lives.

Celebrations happened across south Bucks and the UK as beacons were lit overlooking High Wycombe and on Coombe Hill.
