Dozens of people have gathered at a memorial spot in woodland near High Wycombe to remember loved ones they have lost.

An afternoon arranged by Rennie Grove Hospice Care saw people gather at Downley Memorial Woodland on Saturday to pay their respects.

Visitors were able to make a donation to pledge a bluebell in remembrance and follow the nature trail around the wood.

Later, a picnic was held with family friendly activities including cricket, face painting and henna tattoos.

High Wycombe Mayor Khalil Ahmed joined wellwishers, along with Jenny Provin of Rennie Grove, Mike Hill of Downley Methodist church and Imam Sultan Mahmood of Totteridge Mosque, who also planted a beech tree to mark the occasion.

Author Nicholas Halliday held a story telling session where he read from his book The Lonely Tree, with children were able to take part in a craft session.

Penny Crosswell, community fundraising manager at Rennie Grove, said: “I would like to thank everyone that came along on Saturday and supported the afternoon.

“This was the first time we have held an event like this in the area and we were very pleased with how it went.”
