A 24-year-old man has suffered serious injuries after he was stabbed multiple times in a terrifying attack this morning.

Residents in Mendip Way, Downley, have now described their shock at the attack as police continue their search for the person behind the stabbing.

The victim was found in the street shortly after 2am with stab wounds to his body.

The man’s name has not been released by police, but residents have described him as "polite” and "quiet".

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "This is so shocking and actually quite scary too. It is so upsetting and it feels horrible for this to happen on your doorstep.

"It’s scary to think anyone can come somewhere like here, do what they want to do and then do what they can to get away with it.

"It doesn’t matter who the person is, but no-one ever deserves something like that to happen."

Speaking about the victim, they added: "He’s very polite and a quiet person compared to the other boisterous boys around here.

"He’s the sort of person that if I’m getting shopping out of my car he will come and help me.

"He’s just a good, good boy, and he didn’t deserve that."

Police were called to Mendip Way, near to the junction of The Pastures Service Road, by the ambulance service.

After the injured man was transported to hospital, detectives began their investigations.

Vickie Venter, who lives in The Pastures Service Road, said: "Police came to mine at about 2.50am. Normally I wake up easily, I heard a lot of noise but I didn’t really know what was going on.

"It is a big shock. I feel a bit all over the place if I’m honest with you. You don’t really know what to do when something like this happens.

"I have lived here about seven years and never had anything like that. There are a lot of older residents around here and it has a big impact on everyone."

Errol Joseph, also of The Pastures Service Road, said: "It’s not nice when you live near it. Hopefully everyone will be ok."

Following the attack, detectives have been keen to reassure residents in Mendip Way and the surrounding roads.

High Wycombe neighbourhood team inspector, Tim McGirr, said: "I would like to reassure the public that this sort of assault is not common place and we are doing everything we can to arrest the offenders as soon as we possibly can.

"We would ask that any witnesses that saw anything to come forward.

"At the moment, the neighbourhood team will be doing additional patrols in the area to try and reassure people and if anyone has got any concerns, then they should call 101 and report it or speak to one of the officers patrolling the area."
