Twelve houses were flooded after a burst water main caused chaos for residents last night.

Update: residents relive the moment water flooded homes.

Thames Water have apologised after a large pipe burst, flooding numerous properties in Kingsmead Road, Loudwater.

These pictures show the aftermath of the serious leak, which caused a mud slick that workers are currently trying to clear from the street.

Firefighters were called at about 11.45pm last night in a bid to stop the water spreading to nearby homes, using sandbags and water booms to protect properties.

It is believed that the pipe burst in a wooded area to the north of the road, washing silt and debris down onto the street.

Thames Water manager Nigel Membury said: “We’re very sorry to customers whose properties have been flooded, and for the disruption the road closure is causing.

“We’re going to be doing all we can to support those whose homes have been affected and working flat out to clear the silt and get the road reopened as soon as possible.”

They added that 12 properties have been affected by water from the burst pipe and Thames Water’s loss adjusters will be visiting those homes today to see how they can help residents, assess the damage and begin any insurance claim processes.

The road is closed between High Wycombe Rugby Club and the junction with Dolphin Court while Thames Water teams clean up the area.

Work is expected to take most of the day, and a separate team will soon begin fixing the 12-inch diameter pipe.

Water supplies in the area remain normal and are not expected to be interrupted by repair work.

The incident is being dealt with by Thames Water and Bucks County Council after the initial help from Bucks Fire and Rescue.

Two crews from Beaconsfield and two from High Wycombe, along with two officers, attended the scene.
