Confused residents will be told what they should be recycling after a survey revealed one third of people do not understand.

The campaign was set up by The Chiltern and Wycombe Joint Waste Service to help give residents a better understanding of what material goes in what bin.

It follows a survey by Recycle Now which revealed 33 percent of people are confused about which items can be recycled along with which bin they should use.

Residents across High Wycombe, including homes in Terriers, Micklefield and Totteridge will receive flyers with information aimed to solve their confusion about recycling.

Stickers will also be sent out from The Chiltern and Wycombe Joint Waste Service to be used on bins so residents can easily learn which material waste belongs in each bin – and residents may find a tag on their bin if it is found to contain the wrong material.

Wendy Mallen, Wycombe District Council’s deputy cabinet manager for environment, said: “Recycling rates have really started to improve since we started to collect glass, cans, plastic and paper from across the district, but we know some people occasionally forget which items go into each bin.’

‘The aim of this campaign is to point people in the right direction so they understand which materials go into each bin, and, as a district, we continue to do our bit for the environment.”
