Police have thrown down the gauntlet to children in High Wycombe - challenging them to a speed test against the bobby on their beat.

At an event in Micklefield next Thursday, runners' speeds will be measured by a police speed gun and displayed in a challenge for kids to break the speed set by the aptly named PC Terry Quick.

Racing will take place as the ‘One Stop Pop Up Cop Shop’ visits Micklefield between 10am and 3pm on Thursday (13/8).

The event will be held in the grassy area between the Gayhurst flats off Gayhurst Road.

Wycombe Local Policing Area commander Superintendent Ed McLean, officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team plus representatives from Wycombe District Council and Lemmy Nwabuisi from Red Kite Community Housing will be on hand to meet members of the public and listen to any community concerns.

Sgt Matthew Lloyd said: “Visitors will have the opportunity to feast on some cake and, for young people, answer the question that should never be asked – can they run faster than their neighbourhood policeman.

“Our speed indicator will reveal all.

“We would also like to introduce members of the Micklefield community to our new PCSO Gail Gratton. We hope to see you there."

A Thames Valley Police dangerous dogs expert will be at the pop-up shop between 11am and 12 noon.

Officers will be available to security mark items making them less desirable to thieves and more likely to be returned to their owner if stolen.

Visitors will also be able to meet Thames Valley Police horses Luna and Pagan who will be patrolling Kingswood and North Micklefield in the afternoon.
