Fundraisers will be swapping their beds for sleeping bags in November to take to the streets to sleep rough for a night.

The Wycombe Homeless Connection (WHC) is staging a ‘Big Sleep Out’ to encourage people to raise sponsorship and awareness for the homeless on November 20-21.

The event, due to take place in the All Saints Churchyard, is expected to reach full capacity following last year’s success.

Heather Morley, of the Wycombe Homeless Connection, said: “This is a sponsored event to raise a worthwhile sum to support the WHC’s vital work.

“We help homeless people who do not qualify for council assistance and therefore have nowhere else to turn. In the last year, 400 individuals have come to the WHC for help.”

The sleepout comes amid controversy in High Wycombe over a decision by Wycombe District Council which could have paved the way for rough sleepers to be fined.

The council has since stressed that this will not happen.

The event is limited to over 16s. If anyone would like to take part then email sleep.out@wyhoc.org.uk with your name, address and telephone number, as well as your age if under 18, and whether you are a student.
