Queen Elizabeth II sent a thank you letter to the people of Wycombe after residents in the district congratulated her on becoming the longest-reigning British monarch last month.

Wycombe District Council chairman, councillor Ian McEnnis, wrote to the Queen’s representatives on behalf of the district at the time of the event and recently received a reply.

A message from the Queen’s chief clerk thanked Cllr McEnnis together with the council and the people from the whole district and passed on the best wishes from the Royal family.

The initial letter from Cllr McEnnis said: “On behalf of the citizens of Wycombe district, please accept our heartfelt love and congratulations on your achievement of being the longest reining British monarch in history.

“During your reign there have been many important milestones and you remain a focus for our national identity, stability and unity throughout the decades.”

The Queen celebrated the occasion of becoming the longest-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom on September 9.

At the time, the Bucks Free Press looked back at some of the memorable visits made to the county by the Queen.
