Ahead of Homeless Week, a south Bucks charity is calling on residents to experience what it is like to be homeless by spending time outside in sub-zero temperatures.

Wycombe Homeless Connection is issuing the ‘Five Minute Challenge’ to residents, asking them to spend five minutes outside before going to bed.

Wycombe Winter Night Shelter helps up to 12 people every night in the town who would otherwise have to cope with sleeping outside.

Guests are offered a hot meal, washing facilities, clean clothes as well as a safe warm bed for the night.

Since it opened its doors on January 2, 134 bed nights have been accommodated (up 4 per cent on last year).

Dr Sheena Dykes, WHC Chair of Trustees, said: “For its guests, the night shelter is High Wycombe’s fourth emergency service.

“The charity needs ongoing donations of money and volunteer time to keep this service going.”
