A missing traveller who disappeared after climbing a mountain in Peru more than a week ago has links to High Wycombe.

Furniture maker Harry Greaves went missing while travelling abroad on April 7 – two days before his 29th birthday – and has not been seen since, despite numerous searches.

The Bucks Free Press understands that Mr Greaves has close links to the High Wycombe area and previously trained at Stewart Linford’s traditional cabinet workshop in Cressex.

Fears are now growing over his health and wellbeing, with the Lucie Blackman Trust website launching a worldwide appeal.

According to the trust’s website, Mr Greaves – who now lives in Shropshire – flew to Peru on February 20, and met with friends in Pisac, near Coscou.

On Thursday, April 7, he told friends he wished to spend the day by himself on a mountain and was expected to return three days later – but he has not been seen since.

A thorough search, including helicopter flights, has been made of the area Mr Greaves was visiting, but there have been no signs of him.

A Lucie Blackman Trust statement said: “He attended a permaculture course before heading into the jungle with a group.

“He sent two very positive and happy emails home and seemed to be enjoying his time there.

“Harry does often desire to travel alone and he is very practical, self-reliant and used to outward bound activities.

“He set out with full travelling kit including tent and sleeping bag.”

Mr Greaves, who runs Marcher Furniture, learnt his trade in High Wycombe and later worked alone on bespoke commissions out of the Bucks New University workshops, according to his blog.

In just over 24 hours, a fundraiser which was started to boost the international search for Harry has raised almost £12,500.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are providing support to the family of a British person reported missing in Peru."
