A young filmmaker from Hughenden has created a video about the plight of a community shop that was targeted by thieves and then set on fire last month.

The community was rocked when Hughenden Valley Community Shop in Coombe Lane was burgled and then set alight on March 6 – something a volunteer discovered as he arrived to open up the shop for the day at around 6.30am.

Ethan Clark, 13, has now created a short film to help raise awareness about their battle to get the shop up and running again after originally reading about the incident in the Bucks Free Press.

Since the fire, Wycombe District Council has offered the volunteers a used modular building that could replace the old portacabin, but could cost up to £18,000 to transport it to the site from its current location.

Shop manager Louise Jones and volunteers have also called on residents and local companies for support and with the help of Heart of Bucks, has set up a fundraising page to meet the cost.

Ethan said: “I decided to try and support the shop by creating a video for them. As there was another cameraman working on the story, I came at it from a young person’s point of view and have tried to promote the shop and ask for donations.”

Meanwhile, the portacabin that was gutted by the fire was removed from the site on Thursday afternoon, ready to be replaced by the WDC buildings.

Around £475 has been raised towards the move and reconstruction of the shop so far. To make a donation visit www.localgiving.org/appeal/HVSOS/ or contact Louise Jones about offering direct support by emailing shopmanager@valleyshop.org.
