A workshop aimed at helping bullied children will take place in High Wycombe next month.

The interactive session – aimed at nine to eleven-year-olds - is hoped to raise confidence and improve assertiveness in young people who have been the target of bullying as well as providing support for parents and carers.

The event – which has been organised by Bucks County Council – will take place on Wednesday June 15 at Youthspace Wycombe, on Desborough Street and has 12 available spaces.

Zahir Mohammed, County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We know that being bullied can ruin a young person’s childhood and sometimes, quite understandably, they simply cannot see a way out.

“However, there is always a way to beat the bully, and often it’s a lot easier than it seems. We want to teach people how to withstand the pressure and allow them to live and study in peace.”

There will also be another session for teenagers in Aston Clinton on Saturday, June 18 at Green Park centre on Stablebridge Road.

Cllr Mohammed added: “In the longer term, the skills they learn at these workshops will help them cope as adults because we know bullying exists in all walks of life.

“Bullying is often a normal part of school life, but it can be incredibly cruel and destructive and we aim to build up the self-esteem and resilience of the victims.”

The workshops, to be booked on a first-come first-served basis, are run on by kidscape, the national children’s charity - https://www.kidscape.org.uk/
