Parking charges are back in force at a High Wycombe leisure centre following the installation of new machines in the car park.

From today, users of the Wycombe Rye Lido car park will need to pay, after almost two months of free parking.

Car park operators say the new system is still an automatic number plate recognition system, now with an additional pay and display machine in place.

The automatic system, installed in 2013, caused fury among motorists at the time after many were issued with “unfair and incorrect” £150 fines

Now, users enter their car registration number and get a ticket to display in their windscreen, which also doubles up as a receipt to say parking has been paid for.

Fusion Lifestyle, which owns the Lido, has confirmed members of the centre will continue to enjoy free parking.

The operators have also said there is a 10 minute free parking period in place for those who want to stop off for a brief period of time.

According to signs in the car park, disabled badge holders are not exempt from the charges, which can be paid at any stage before leaving.
