High Wycombe’s BHS store is set to be one of the first across the UK to close.

Nearly 600 staff will be affected by the first round of countrywide closures, with administrators saying they will try to find them temporary work in nearby branches.

A total of 20 BHS stores, including High Wycombe’s in Eden Shopping Centre, are expected to close on Saturday.

The town's branch has been named on a list alongside Slough and 18 others.

BHS fell into administration in April, with staff in High Wycombe accusing bosses for a lack of communication after discovering they were to lose their jobs.

The department store has been a familiar fixture in town centre for many years, since it was first set up in 1928.

Retail billionaire Sir Philip Green bought BHS from Storehouse Plc for £200million in 2000.

He sold it in 2015 for just £1 to Retail Acquisitions, writing off £215million of debts in the process.
