Young swimmers made a splash this week, as they took to the pool for Wycombe Leisure Centre’s first School Gala.

Children from six schools across south Bucks took part in the inaugural event, jumping in at the deep end as they tried to emulate the world’s sporting stars.

The exited youngsters said they felt like they were at the Olympics as they took part in a series of races at the new £25 million sports centre in Handy Cross.

After a day of fun, pupils from Juniper Hill School, in Flackwell Heath, were crowned the champions.

They beat off competition from High Wycombe Church of England School, Manor Farm Junior School, Naphill and Walters Ash School, Millbrook School and West Wycombe School.

The six schools regularly have lessons at the leisure centre and the competing kids were picked by their teachers for good effort over the last year.

Wycombe Leisure Centre staff say they are hopeful to continue the competition once a year from now on.
