A crazed hostage taker who repeatedly attacked his naked ex-girlfriend while threatening to kill and blow up officers during a terrifying siege has been jailed.

Homeless Wayne Todd locked himself and his former partner in a bathroom in High Wycombe last year, holding her captive during a two-and-half-hour-long siege which only ended when police Tasered him seven times.

During the shocking ordeal, a jury heard how the 47-year-old had stamped on his ex’s back to such a degree that she had soiled herself because of the pain.

An argument between the pair quickly turned violent after she walked in and found him in her Wenlock Close – previously Olympic Way – flat, wearing pink tights and a blue and grey hooded jumper.

He then turned his attention to the heroic officers who came to the hostage’s rescue, striking them in the chest with a chisel.

Following a week-long trial earlier this year, Todd has now been sentenced to 10 years and nine months in prison by a crown court judge.

Det Con Dave Nevitt said: “This matter started as an argument and quickly escalated to a very frightening and violent episode for all involved.

“Had the police not intervened when they did then this incident could have had devastating consequences for the woman involved.”

A vicious argument broke out on July 4, with Todd hitting the victim a number of times on her head and stamping on her back.

She managed to scream for help out of an open window, but was unable to escape.

Armed with a chisel and crowbar, Todd held the woman hostage in her bathroom, smashing a hole in the wall to try and fight off police who were called by panicked neighbours.

He threatened to stab the officers with a chisel-like tool that he was holding in his hand and later hit out an officer, stabbing them in the chest.

After Tasering Todd seven times, police managed to pin him down and finally restrained him using safety shields – suffering just minor injuries in the process.

Det Con Wilde said: “Had the officers not been wearing their personal protective equipment they could have received serious, if not fatal, injuries.

Det Insp Mark Lacey, of Aylesbury Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “It was fortunate that all parties escaped with cuts and bruises and nothing more serious.

“However it shows the level of violence and danger officers may have to face during their normal shift at work and also the lengths officers will go to in order to protect the public.”

Todd was found guilty of attempted Grievous Bodily Harm with intent against a police constable after a trial earlier this year.

He admitted breaching a restraining order, ABH, false imprisonment, affray, criminal damage, making threats to kill and breaching two suspended sentences.

Judge Reddihough sentenced Todd to ten years and nine months’ imprisonment with an extended licence of four years on Friday.
