Detectives investigating the grisly discovery of a 64-year-old woman’s body after a woodland fire have revealed they no longer believe the death is suspicious.

The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain unexplained, but police appear to be ruling out foul play - 10 days after the body was found.

Firefighters found the woman’s body in woodland off Hunts Hill Lane, Naphill, after receiving 999 calls about a blaze at 5.45pm on Friday, November 11.

Some reports have suggested her body was on fire, but police have refused to comment on the exact details of the incident.

It took officers days to identify the woman, but they are yet to release her name while investigations continue.

The Bucks Free Press have asked Thames Valley Police for updates on the investigation, with officers today confirming that while the death remains unexplained, they do not believe it was suspicious.

Last week, police praised members of the public who come forward with information, which led to detectives able to identify the woman.

Det Insp Mark Baxter, from Buckinghamshire Force CID, said: "Our investigation examining how the woman died is ongoing and the circumstances of her death remain unexplained at this time.

"I would like to thank members of the public who came forward with information following our appeal as this led to us being able to notify her family of the tragic news.

"I would also like to thank members of the community in Naphill as I am aware this area is popular with dog walkers and the scene watch meant some people were unable to go there while we were carrying out our investigation.”

Police have urged any residents who may be concerned about the incident to contact them on 101 to speak to the neighbourhood team.
