The devastated family of a young cyclist who was tragically killed in an alleged hit-and-run in High Wycombe say they are “overwhelmed and comforted” by the support they have received since he died. 

David Pickup, 28, died after he was hit by a car while travelling down Hicks Farm Rise, in High Wycombe, on January 16 – sparking a hit-and-run investigation.

The talented musician’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes, with friends and family describing him as a “wonderful talent.”

His parents, Marion and Malcolm and brothers Jonathan and Andrew got in touch with the Free Press to express their thanks to everyone who attended David’s funeral at GreenAcres in Potkiln Lane, Jordans, on Thursday, February 9 and to all those who “sent condolences but were unable to attend.”

They said: “We were overwhelmed and comforted to know that David had touched so many people's lives.

“Our thanks too, to all the services involved: Lizzie at Arnold's (Funeral Directors), Marisa (GreenAcres), Dominique Casbeard (Celebrant), Bill (Quality Catering), and Linda Jane's (Florist), who helped us so much through this difficult time.”

Following his death, two men, aged 27 and 25, both from High Wycombe, were arrested on January 17 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.

The pair were bailed until March 18.

A woman was arrested on January 18 in suspicion of perverting the course of justice and has been bailed until March 19.
