Firefighters were called 40 times in a two-hour period about flooding last night.

Flashing floods and thunder storms caused chaos across the county last night, with emergency services working tirelessly to cope with calls for help from worried residents.

Out of 40 weather-related calls, 17 of those came from Marlow and 12 came from the High Wycombe area.

Three calls came in from Lane End, two each from Princes Risborough, Monks Risborough and Prestwood, and one each from Beaconsfield and Marlow Bottom.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mick Osborne said: "The majority [of calls] were from people who were concerned about lightning strikes and the amount of water on the roads or near their homes, and in most cases we provided advice but did not attend because they did not actually have water in their homes.

"We attended a number of addresses where there was a risk of fire because rainwater was affecting the electrics, and several industrial and commercial premises where water had entered and activated the fire alarm systems.

"We would encourage people to keep an eye on the weather forecast and take appropriate precautions."

A number of vehicles also became stuck on flooded roads, with Bucks Fire and Rescue and Thames Valley Police Roads Policing issuing advice on social media throughout the evening to discourage drivers from entering standing water.
