A carjacking victim, who was hurt after he fell from the bonnet of his car while desperately clinging on as the thief drove at high speeds in the London Road, has spoken out about his terrifying ordeal

Matt Spooner, 29, took an unknown man out for a test drive in his Mercedes from Berkeley Road.

Mr Spooner said he drove the man in the car for around 90 seconds before returning to where they started.

As he started showing him around the car, Mr Spooner said the man assaulted him by punching him in the side of the head, and took the keys from his hand.

He said: “I was showing him something at the back of the car and he hit me on the side of the head from behind and took the keys from me.

“He initially couldn’t get the car going and I tried to break the windows to get in and stop him. I was shouting for help.”

As Mr Spooner tried to stop the thief, he ended up on the bonnet of the car and was carried along the A40 “at speed”.

He then fell off the car and the thief drove off. The car was seen travelling along the A40 towards Beaconsfield, until the junction with Watery Lane in Wooburn Green.

He said: “I climbed on to the bonnet thinking that might stop him. He didn’t care, he just kept on driving.

“He came out of Berkeley Road onto the A40 doing 50 to 60 miles-per-hour down the road during rush hour.

“It was absolutely petrifying. I was in quite a bad way emotionally – I was all over the place. I was shaking for hours afterwards from the adrenaline.

“There were a few moments [on the bonnet] where I was thinking ‘this is it for me’.”

Mr Spooner is now urging other people who might have had a similar experience to speak to police, in order to catch the thief.”

Speaking about what made him climb on to the bonnet, he said he felt a “massive” adrenaline rush when he realised his car was being stolen.

He said: “I absolutely didn’t think it would happen to me. I did everything I could to stop it happening.

“The car was being sold to pay for a family holiday and if I’m being honest I didn’t want that taken away from them.

“It was just awful, absolutely awful.”

The stolen car is a silver Mercedes Benz E250 CDI with a registration plate ending in ONS. Police believe it is possible that these plates have since been changed.

The offender has been described as an Asian man in his twenties, short, of a slim build with black hair.

The officer in case, PC Francesca Keen, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “This was a horrific incident which has left the victim understandably shaken.

"A thorough investigation has now been launched and we are specifically appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any dashcam footage of it.

“This includes any vehicles that would have been on the London Road, A40 between High Wycombe and Beaconsfield between 5.30pm and 6.30pm yesterday evening.

"Equally, if anyone has found a discarded number plate ending in ONS or witnessed any suspicious activity involving a silver Mercedes E250, please let us know.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may help with the investigation and ensure that the offender is brought to justice.”
