A new High Wycombe mayor will be “weighed in” at a traditional ceremony in the town on Saturday.
In an ancient tradition that is unique to High Wycombe, residents get to see if politicians and dignitaries have been overindulging during their time in office, as they take a seat on the scales in front of the crowds.
The mayor, charter trustees and officers are weighed in and out of office.
If they have put on weight, the town crier calls "and some more" as the audience boos but if they have lost weight, cheers ring out as the town crier says "no more".
Many years ago, the crowds would throw fruit at the mayor and dignitaries who had put on weight, seen as an overindulgence at the public’s expense.
New mayor, Cllr Sarfaraz Khan Raja, will take over from Cllr Brian Pearce at the event at 11.30am in Frogmoor.
