Arts in High Wycombe will be the focus of the new chairman of the District Council, it has been revealed.

Cllr Tony Green has taken the chains from Cllr Suzanne Brown and is now the new chairman of Wycombe District Council.

He said was “honoured” to have been selected for the prestigious role and would “carry it out to the best of my abilities”.

The new chairman has chosen two arts organisations as his preferred charities for the year - Wycombe Museum and the Wycombe Arts Centre.

He said: “In times of tightened belts, the arts can be overlooked. I hope I can help raise the profile of the arts and raise money for these fantastic charities.”

Cllr Green was formally selected for the role at the annual town meeting on Monday night.

Cllr Suzanne Brown, who handed over the chains, said she was “honoured and privileged” to have held the role for the last year.

She said: “It has been a really great year. I am especially proud that we have been so lucky to have had so many businesses in the district winning the Queen’s awards this year.”
