Review: Gala Performance by Chesham Musical Theatre Company at The Elgiva
4:12pm Monday 29th October 2012 in Freetime By Rita Carpenter
CHESHAM Musical Theatre Company took the audience on a breathtaking ride from their early years up to this latest production.
Presented by Ron White, Sandra Taylor and Jenny Crumpton who narrated the beginnings of the group through several name changes to the present time.
The show opened with a selection of delightful excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan followed by a poignant reminder of World War I with some of the most memorable songs from that era and closed the first half with a rousing medley from Rogers and Hammerstein.
Superbly directed by Sandra Taylor with an excellent selection from Musical Director Rebecca Izzard with her musicians, the singing was superb with melodious harmonies.
The second half offered a selection from the popular musical shows.
With some gorgeous costumes, lively dance routines, plus some slower more reflective numbers the evening sped along at a lively pace.
There were so many to choose from but my particular favourites were ‘Who will Buy’ from Oliver and Blow Gabriel Blow from Anything Goes the latter of which was outstanding.
This was a glorious celebration of all things musical which Chesham Musical Theatre Company do so well.
Their next production will be one of my all time favourites Carousel which is coming to the Elgiva in April 2013. Do look out for it, it will be well worth seeing.
