THAME PLAYERS are hoping for gigantic success with their pantomime production of Jack And The Beanstalk, which opens in a fortnight.

Based upon the classic children's story, Jack And The Beanstalk narrates the tale of a young impoverished man named Jack, whose mother asks him to sell their last and only possession, a cow.

But along the way to the market, Jack meets a stranger who offers to trade the cow for five magical beans.

Angered by Jack's trade, his mother throws the beans out of the window, whereupon they grow into a gigantic beanstalk. The next day, Jack decides to climb the enormous plant and at the very top, discovers a castle inhabited by a bloodthirsty giant.

The Thame Players, which boasts more than 150 members, was founded 60 years ago. The group performs five productions a year and also runs a youth group, Thame Young Players, for budding thespians aged six to 16.

Among the productions scheduled for next year are Absurd Person Singular by Alan Ayckbourn, Hay Fever by Noel Coward and The Dresser by Ronald Harwood.

Thame Players presents Jack And The Beanstalk from Friday, December 8 to Sunday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 13 to Sunday, December 17 at The Players Theatre, Nelson Street, Thame.
