POPULAR author Roald Dahl's tales are going interactive when they take to the stage at the Edinburgh Festival next week.

The laughter-packed show features animation and funky artwork – with the performers treading the boards both staff working at the Bucks museum dedicated to the children’s author.

Clem Silverman and Lewis Baker will be basing their act on Dahl's books 'Revolting Rhymes' and 'Dirty Beasts'.

Both developed their act while entertaining children at the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden, where the author lived for the final few years of his life.

Mr Silverman said the show would get laughs from children and adults alike, but also had a serious side in trying to promote children’s writing.

The 23-year-old from Beaconsfield – who describes himself and 25-year-old Lewis Baker as 'two upstarts from the museum' – said: “It's aimed at getting children involved. The mission statement of the museum is to promote children’s literature and the Roald Dahl Foundation.

“When we were working at the museum we did some storytelling and improvised writing based on 'Revolting Rhymes'. It took on a life of its own and we developed our own jokes.

“It's all very relaxed and there's a good few laughs in there, and hopefully people will learn a bit as well.”

The show has already been hailed a great success with two outings at the Wychwood Music Festival and another at the Oxford Literary Festival – so taking it to Edinburgh was “a must”.

Mr Silverman said: “We're really looking forward to it. It's going to be tough, because it's quite competitive.”

The pre-show features a stop-animation by Will Howes, with local artist Holly Burrows providing the background designs.

The show takes to the stage for the first time on Wednesday August 5 and runs until August 31 at the Pleasance Courtyard.
