THE Wutars went to college in High Wycombe together and met their fifth band member down the pub. As they started drinking together and jamming together they realised that they had something more, something which could take them to the dizzying heights of stardom.
The band formed in 2005 in High Wycombe as four of them went to Bucks New Uni to study.
Vocalist and guitarist Alex Gold said that when the band formed it wasn't a conscious thing, but it progressed as they all hung around each other's flats.
He said: “Then we had some organised gigs and we thought we should make it an organised thing.”
Last month their song, Stay Up Stay Up was chosen by Gary Crowley as his London Calling track of the week on BBC radio and the Mirror have tipped them as one of the UK's most vital young bands.
The band who are Alex Gold, Maz Manzini, Alex Kew, Alex Valentine and Samuel Terrific have just moved out of High Wycombe centre to West Wycombe.
Gold said: “We are from all over the place but we all converged here. Wycombe has got this weird gravitational pull and I can't seem to escape the place for more than one day at a time.
“We all live together. It is a lifestyle choice. If we moved into separate pads it would upset the balance.”
Alex Kew, who is from High Wycombe, joined the band two months ago.
Gold said: “We picked him up from the pub. He was jamming with us so we thought we would make it official and let him join.”
The Wutars practice in a studio on the edge of town in Mill End Road by the stadium. They have made their own record label called Very Decent Music and have released their debut album which is available on their website and Itunes.
Gold added: “We always knew we were really capable- it was a question of applying ourselves. You can be good at something but if you don't work hard then it won't happen.
“You are the master of your own destiny.
“We get our name around by saturating ourselves wherever possible. We went to Sweden and Belgium and that was really cool.
“It is always nice to play somewhere new.”
The Wutars play heaps of London gigs and are next performing at the Sweet but Deadly Club at Monarch in Camden on December 3 at 8pm.
