Artists prepare for huge Bucks Open Studios
BUCKS Open Studios is the perfect opportunity to see the wide variety of artistic talent on your doorstep as studios across the county fling open their doors and welcome the public.
The popular event, which lasts two weeks, has been running for 26 years and this year there are more artists and makers involved than before.
From sculpture to oil paintings to sketches and photography there really is something to suit almost all tastes.
I had a go at creating my own pendant with one of the participants.
I headed down to Studio E174, which is tucked away on the first floor in Commercial Square, which is off Green Street in Desborough.
It was established in 2010 by Elizabeth Callinicos and Lucian Taylor, who first met whilst studying at the Royal College of Art in the 90s.
Lucian specialised in silversmithing and Elizabeth in jewellery.
It is a great studio space with large windows providing amazing light and I went along to a class to make my very own piece of jewellery.
Lucian told me: "I teach people of various abilities. Some people have been doing silversmithing longer than I have."
And he explains how he teaches alongside silversmithing, which suits him, as he says his work is often better when he doesn't have the whole week to do it.
We used cuttlefish to make the mould for the pendant. I chose a rectangular shape and used the natural grain for the pattern on the piece.
Lucian carefully takes you through the process and even when it came to pouring the molten pewter in the mould and my hands went all shaky he is there to help out.
I was really pleased with my final piece, although it made me realise just how much talent Lucian and Elizabeth have to make their fantastic pieces.
And talent like this is in abundance at Bucks Open Studios.
There are 539 artists and makers taking part in 190 different venues. There is rarely a chance to see so many artists' work and also how they work.
Of course there are too many to mention Here are few who have been in touch: A group of artists called Group 12 who exhibit in the Tithe Barn at Manor Farm in Haddenham; Ian Moore's paintings and prints are at a little bird told me gallery in Wendover, there will be 32 artists artists at The Clare Foundation in Saunderton, including photographer Danny Higgins.
