HOUSE Guest by Francis Durbridge (of Paul Temple fame for those old enough to remember) is a thrilling play with many unexpected twists and turns. Staged by the Chesham Bois Catholic Players it kept the audience engrossed by the action throughout.

The play revolves round two film stars whose only son is kidnapped but not for ransom. The couple will do anything to ensure his safe return, and have to accommodate some very dodgy house guests all of whom turn out to be other than they purport to be.

With several sinister characters, a delightful and dizzy cousin who flits in and out of the action and a couple of rather suspect policeman add to the mystery.

This was an excellent play and a good choice for the Players who performed it well. Ably directed by Nic Barton assisted by Jonathan Coburn and with some clever sound effects and an interesting set this was an enjoyable performance.

It was a Sunday afternoon which may have accounted for the not very large audience but as they offered three different evening performances it is hoped that their regular audience attended and were able to see how well the group did with this play.

Judging by the comments I overheard when leaving the theatre it was well received by those who were there. This is the Chesham Bois Catholic Players first foray into a thriller and I must congratulate them on its success.
