Penn Festival: Drivers warned car parks are shut
PENN Festival public car parks have been completely shut due to torrential rain.
An urgent warning is being sent out to drivers this morning telling them they will not be able to park in the fields.
Torrential rain has turned the area into a swamp, organisers say.
But they stressed this morning that everything is being done to ensure the event goes ahead and it is still up and running.
Organisers have laid on a free shuttle bus service from Cressex park and ride at Handy Cross.
Festival organiser Nick Billinghurst told the BFP: “The car parks are unfortunately closed, nobody is allowed in or out.
“We are trying desperately hard and seeing what else we can do."
He apologised for any inconvenience but added: "There's two feet of mud, it's impossible for people to get in, it's like a swamp, there's a lot of free standing water and the ground is churned up.”
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone has had to take the same steps today, shutting its car park as Britain is battered with massive downpours.
Mr Billinghurst said: “Yesterday afternoon the rain was relentless and the forecast today is more rain, mostly all day from midday, but it changes by the minute.”
