GET ready to put your best foot forward as Oxford plays host to a city-wide celebration of dance starting today (Friday). Now in its second year, the month-long Dancin' Oxford festival promises to showcase the best of community dance groups, alongside top-billing dance companies nationwide.

Among the highlights of this year's festival is the arrival of Stomp at the New Theatre, from Tuesday, February 12 to Saturday, February 16.

A unique combination of theatre, dance, comedy and percussion, watch as eight performers use boots, brooms, bins and everything else they can get their feet on to hammer out a feel-good rhythm.

The Birmingham Royal Ballet also performs two pieces, the traditional Swan Lake and the more contemporary All That Jazz, at the New Theatre from Tuesday, March 4 to Saturday, March 8.

At the Oxford Playhouse, the CandoCo Dance Company, which comprises both disabled and non-disabled dancers, performs a double bill, And Who Shall Go To The Ball? and The Stepfather on Wednesday, February 13. This is followed by the arrival of the Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. The company will perform its latest show, James Son Of James, an engrossing story of accidental heroism, hero worship, love, betrayal and revenge.

Tac-au-Tac Dance Theatre also visits the Oxford Playhouse on Sunday, March 9 with The Little Horse and Micro-Moments, a duet of contemporary pieces for youngsters.

Over at Pegasus Theatre, Oxford Youth Dance performs new pieces from Wednesday, February 20 to Saturday, February 23.

The venue also hosts a trilogy of African works from Sakoba Dance Theatre, on Friday, February 29 and Saturday, March 1.

Last, but not least, the Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company arrives at Pegasus Theatre from Wednesday, March 5 to Saturday, March 8 with Ain't Misbehavin': The Fats Waller Musical Show.

For anyone who would like to have a go themselves, the festival also features the Dance-A-Thon Weekend from Saturday, March 1 to Sunday, March 2, which boasts taster workshops in everything from Flamenco, Salsa and Ceroc to African, Bollywood and Hip Hop.

Dancin' Oxford takes place from Friday, February 8 until Sunday, March 9 at various venues. Details: 01865 305305 or www.dancinoxford.co.uk
