Tortoise tales

9:53am Friday 7th March 2008

By Nicola Orchard »

A FLUTE playing tortoise will keep your children entertained this weekend.

Take a trip to the Amazon rainforests of Brazil, without leaving Maidenhead, to discover the story of Jabuti, at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts.

The short-legged and slow tortoise is popular with the other animals in the rainforest, despite his love of playing tricks on his friends.

Jabuti is musical, and plays happy tunes on his flute, but his playing only serves to remind Vulture that he has no song to play. When a concert is held in heaven, Vulture offers to fly Jabuti there, while plotting a trick.

The production from Tam Tam Theatre tells the tale of Jabuti in a stunningly visual way, using beautiful puppets to the sound of a Brazilian beat.

The performance is suitable for ages three and over.

Jabuti comes to Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Altwood Road, Maidenhead on Saturday, March 8 at 11am and 3pm. Details: 01628 788997 or www.nordenfarm.org
