Wycombe Swan seeks young actors

3:25pm Thursday 13th March 2008

IF the thought of treading the boards at the Wycombe Swan is loverly, then why not audition for the Summer Youth Project's next production, My Fair Lady?

Adapted by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe from George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, this well-known musical revolves around the relationship between Henry Higgins, an arrogant professor of phonetics, and Eliza Doolittle, a poor flower girl with a strong Cockney accent.

Higgins makes a wager with his friend that he can pass Eliza off as a duchess, simply by changing the way that she speaks, but will the experiment work to her benefit?

The show features a number of crowd-pleasing tunes, including Why Can't The English?, Wouldn't It Be Loverly, With A Little Bit Of Luck, The Rain In Spain, and I Could Have Danced All Night.

Auditions take place this Sunday for talented youngsters aged ten to 19.

Volunteers are also sought to help the costume designer and wardrobe mistress, as well as anyone with millinery experience. Donations of hats, formal menswear and ladies' dresses are also requested.

My Fair Lady runs at the Wycombe Swan from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9.

The meetings for wardrobe volunteers will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2pm to 4pm and Sunday, March 16, 10am to 12pm in the stalls foyer, Wycombe Swan.
Auditions for My Fair Lady take place on Sunday, March 16, 9am. Details: www.wycombeswan.co.uk
