Wilde comedy about a would-be murderer
 |
| The Marlow Players perform an Oscar Wilde classic this week. PICTURE 08 544 p 03: SACHA LILLA |
Oscar Wilde's classic comedy, Lord Arthur Savile's Crime, is the latest offering from The Marlow Players.
The play, which opened yesterday at the Shelley Theatre, revolves around Lord Arthur and a celebrity palm reader.
Looking at his hand, the palm reader tells Arthur that he will commit a murder at some later date.
Arthur wishes to marry, but decides he has no right to do so until he has committed the murder.
Together with Baines, his loyal butler, Arthur tries to bump off one of his many elderly relations, but this plan is soon scuppered.
Arthur then enlists the help of a friendly German anarchist and the trio of potential murderers set about trying to commit their dastardly crime.
But as each successive attempt fails, Arthur finds the only person he is damaging is himself. Will he fulfill the palm reader's prophecy and be free to marry?
The Marlow Players were formed in 1937 and perform two productions at the Shelley Theatre each year.
The Marlow Players present Lord Arthur Savile's Crime tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), 8pm, at the Shelley Theatre,
Court Garden, Marlow. Tickets: 01494 880486, from Marlow Tourist Information Centre, High Street or on the door.
4:27pm Friday 4th April 2008
