A Slice of Comedy @ Revolution Bar - Review

THREE of the country’s top comedians had a Beaconsfield crowd in stitches at the launch of a brand new comedy club last night.

Around 100 people packed into the swanky Revolution Bar in Beaconsfield’s New Town on Thursday, to settle down for A Slice of Comedy and a free slice of pizza, in the first of a series of live comedy nights planned for the venue.

A dramatic countdown bought the curtain up on the show, with London-based compare, Clyde West, walking among the crowd to pick on unsuspecting victims, including forcing one to stand and sing James Brown’s classic, I Feel Good.

With the crowd in the mood, West rolled out the first act of the night, Andrew Bird, with his charming and witty, ‘chatting to his mates in the pub’, style act.

Bird touched on everything from his fond memories of family holidays gone wrong, the polite etiquette you develop when visiting people’s houses and a hilarious story about visiting his Slovakian girlfriend’s parents – brilliant stuff.

Next up was Geordie comic, Luke Benson, who started his set off with, ‘I know what you’re thinking, I look like a giant mouse.’ Which helped to get the crowd on his side, but besides a few clever jokes, his punch lines failed to hit the spot.

Finally, the headline act came in the form of the experienced, David Haddingham, who’s intense and sometimes shocking anecdotal punch lines, kept the crowd hooked.

His shock-and-awe style set focused mainly on his bad experiences with women and his sexual exploits, but he still found time to put a few hecklers firmly in their place, including a rowdy bunch from the Bucks Free Press’ advertising team.

The show’s organisers hoped to hold this event once a month at the Beaconsfield nightspot if tonight’s show was a hit – well roll on next month because this was great fun enjoyed by all.
