MARILYN Monroe, and the tale of her week filming in England in 1956, was what cinema goers had chosen for their Saturday night entertainment.
But rather than the glamorous Hollywood icon, they were taken aback to see a computer generated sword fighting cat and Humpty Dumpty on the giant screen.
Film fans were left bemused as Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots played on the projector, rather than My Week With Marilyn.
Puzzled movie watchers at High Wycombe's Cineworld, sat and saw the beginning of the tale of how hero Puss tries to catch the golden goose (as seen in trailer above), in somewhat stark contrast to the story they had paid for.
Staff eventually became aware of the error, stopped the film and started the showing of the blonde bombshell's experience working with Sir Laurence Olivier, played by Sir Kenneth Brannagh.
However, cinema goers first had to sit through another 20 minutes of adverts and trailers before the film was shown, having already endured the same for Puss in Boots.
About 20 people attended the screening last Saturday night.
After apologising, Cineworld compensated those who went with free tickets for a future film.
A Cineworld statement read: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused at last Saturday’s screening of My Week With Marilyn.
"The mix-up was caused by human error and staff did all they could to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.
"All those affected have been given complimentary tickets to another screening of their choice.”
