On the 19th of September, Walthamstow Village held it’s annual ‘Village Festival’. This event takes place around Orford Road and Vestry Road E17.

This year the event was held on a beautiful sunny day, with many free events of art and music. The village also had many different street food stalls, selling food of different cultures with a celebration of the vast culture in the area.

A stage held in Vestry Park provided music, including an under 18s Youth Talent Slot. There were songs from many different genres and countries, giving the audience a taste of something you would not see everyday.

The children’s area was specifically targeted to amuse the younger visitors throughout the day. The area included a ‘Tumble in the Jumble’ event, a bouncy castle, face painting, and art and crafts. There were also several games, such as hook the duck, and balloon making.

In the hall of The Asian Centre, hand-made gifts made by local designers were available to buy. The event meant that local businesses of Walthamstow could have their products available to people who may have never realised they existed before.

The Village Festival bought an opportunity to local businesses in the area to be part of this event or encourage them to be part of the community, which lead to more awareness of individual businesses locally. It also encouraged the community itself to support the changes undergone in the village in the past year and volunteer to help in the running of the event. This Is Local London:
