Cheers for Aylesbury pub
 |
| Enjoy a drink at The Harrow |
Aylesbury drinkers have always enjoyed a pint at The Harrow, but now the secret of their prize-winning pub is out.
The popular Cambridge Street venue has won the Best Drinks Experience category at the annual Shine Awards, beating 12 other finalists from the south-west region. More than 1,000 of Punch Taverns' 8,400 UK pubs were nominated, making the competition a real challenge.
Punch Taverns' regional operations director Ian Marchant says: "We received more than 120 nominations in this region, so to be crowned category winner is an exceptional achievement - well done!"
Licensees Greig and Karman Amos were presented with their award, and a £500 gift experience voucher, at a ceremony in Oxford last week.
The judges praised The Harrow as a "vibrant city outlet with friendly staff, promoting both food, drink and events."
Mr Amos says: "I'm very chuffed. "We found out that we had been nominated for the award quite a while ago, and hadn't made any changes to our offering just because of the nomination - so it's lovely to know we were doing it right in the first place."
The building is reputed to date back to the 6th Century, but beer has been sold on the premises since the 1600s.
The Harrow, Cambridge Street, Aylesbury. Open daily 11am to 11.30pm. Details: www.theharrowpub.co.uk
