TWO men from Tylers Green have taken on the hefty task of trying nearly every curry house in the area, leaving no naan unturned.

The Penn and Tylers Green Curry Club was started in November 2007 by Stewart Stone and Raza Rizvi as a fun way for people in the village to get to know each other better over some fine food.

They meet towards the end of each month and visit a number of different Indian restaurants, which are chosen for their food quality and suitability for large groups.

Mr Stone, 53, said: "This is clearly a tough job for us visiting a large number of restaurants in the area on tasting missions."

Last year alone Mr Stone enjoyed 83 Indian meals but which eatery is his favourite?

He said: "Mr India in Loudwater has to be a top one. Also The Old Bengal in Beaconsfield, Chutney in High Wycombe and The Coriander in Amersham."

They agree in advance a special format and price for the evening, whereby the restaurant provides poppadoms and mixed starters, then everyone can choose what they like from the full menu, including a main dish, rice, bread and vegetable dishes .

Mr Stone said there is a significant saving on normal prices and to make life easier they operate a pay as you go cash bar, leaving only the fixed price food bill at the end.

People come from far and wide to join the club and it appeals to all age groups. They held their first Sunday family buffet last year, where two of their biggest fans were Lucy Stone and Jess Finnis both aged nine.

Mr Stone added: "I have met a lot of new people. It has been great fun. It is a good social thing to do. People don't have to be in Penn and Tylers Green. People came as far afield as Reading."
