COOKERY writer and broadcaster Mary Berry said she was "thrilled to bits" to be recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

The Penn resident was given a CBE for services to Culinary Arts.

She released her first cook book in 1970 and has released more than 70 publications since.

Berry has been a judge on BBC2's The Great British Bake Off since 2010.

She said of the CBE: "I am thrilled to bits- what an honour.

"You don't expect these things."

She will go to the palace within the next six months to receive her honour.

But it won't be the first time Berry has met the Queen, as she previously went to the palace for lunch.

She said of her family's reaction: "I think they are very pleased for me.

"It is very exciting, as you can imagine."
