The star of an award-winning web series that took the internet by storm is set to make her television debut after the show was commissioned.

Letitia Hector, originally from Cressex and a former pupil of Jackie Palmer Stage School, is reprising her role in Venus Vs Mars for a new series to be shown on Sky Living.

The romantic comedy follows Venus on her quest for true love in the big city, but she encounters problems in the form of her ex-boyfriend, old flames, new crushes and double dates.

The 26-year-old said: “Venus is an independent girl living in the city. She’s looking for her perfect man, but it seems like there’s something that gets in the way every day.

“If you don’t relate to Venus, you will definitely be able to relate to at least one of the other characters. There’s something for everyone.”

The show started out as one episode of a YouTube webisode, but after rave reviews and over 10,000 views in one week, Letitia and show creator Baby Isako quickly realised they had to get some more episodes made.

She said: “I auditioned for a theatre role but I wasn’t successful, but then nine months later, I got a call from the creator who said she had an idea about creating a webisode and she wanted me to play the lead role.

“We met up and she explained everything to me. We never had any expectations back then and we had no idea what would come of it. We just made one episode and uploaded it to YouTube and the response was amazing.

“People just loved it; they were asking when the next episode would be.”

The Sky Living show will be a mixture of material from the webisodes as well as new content and will air on April 9.

Letitia told how she couldn’t believe it when she found out Sky Living were interested in airing the show.

She said: “It’s amazing, I'm so excited. When I heard that Sky were interested I didn’t believe it at first. Even when the contracts came through I still didn’t believe it.

“Sky arranged a screening for the show on Wednesday and that’s when it really hit home. I'm so excited but I'm nervous too because this is the dream, this is everyone’s dream.”

Letitia is hopeful that she can become a positive role model for young girls when the show hits our television screens.

“It makes me feel quite emotional that there aren’t a lot of black females in lead roles in TV the UK. I don’t think there are many black female role models for young people.

“I hope the show drives people to do what they want and to follow their dreams.

“I hope it inspires a lot of people. A lot of people are doing webisodes these days and I hope this proves that with the right team and some hard work, you actually can make it.

“It has changed my life already and I'm hoping it will change my life a lot more too when it’s on TV. I'm not talking about money or fame; I’m talking about confidence and belief in myself. That’s what is most important to me.”

Venus Vs Mars airs on Sky Living at 11pm on April 9.
