GLASTONBURY is to musicians what the Wembley Stadium is to sportsmen - everyone wants to play there.

An upcoming High Wycombe band, currently riding a crescent of a wave, has the world famous music festival firmly in its sights.

Guitarist Damian Carruthers met vocalist David Pickup in a shared house in the town back in 2012. The pair, who shared a love of music, hit it off and began jamming together under the name Let There Be Light.

They announced themselves on the Wycombe music scene with an impressive performance at a local gig after another act pulled out - and they haven’t looked back since.

The duo recorded an EP, which sold out of copies within three days of release, and went on a UK tour with reggae/rock heavyweights Xova.

Let There Be Light have since added two new members to the line-up, played a host of gigs in London and are about to go into the studio again to record a charity single in aid of McMillan Cancer Research.

Damian, 33, said: "We got some really good feedback from that initial session so we booked a little tour, played the smaller venues, and gradually built up our following.

"We’ve developed our sound, we’re writing brand new songs and it’s great to have that bass and drums - it’s awesome for us."

"My step dad passed away in 2012 and McMillan were amazing. They don’t get a lot of money so I wanted to give something back. We got invited to play a gig for them as well so it made sense."

The band are set to headline their own show at the newly refurbished Wycombe Town Hall - which Damien believes will provide a shot in the arm for the Wycombe music scene after the Nags Head closed.

"The Nags Head was a great venue, there is so much talent in High Wycombe, so having this new venue will be great. I think the Town Hall will give the local scene a boost and I can’t wait to play it.

But while the Town Hall will be ticked off the bucket list this month, Damian has already set his sights at playing at the daddy of all music festivals, Glastonbury.

He said: "I never even dreamed we’d do the shows we’re doing at the moment but playing Glastonbury - or Reading - is the ultimate dream, then you know you’ve made it."

Let There Be Light perform at the Town Hall on April 11 from 7pm. Tickets cost £6 from the Wycombe Swan on 01494 512000 or from www.wycombeswan.co.uk.
