Mystery of the Market Town Murder

A Walking Play Many towns in Buckinghamshire have a long and famous history, as the setting for fictitious mysteries in the popular TV show Midsomer Murders, and yet, to date, Aylesbury hasn’t had this call to fame.

Local writer, actor and director David Pustansky has teamed up with Aylesbury Town Council to bring a touch of murderous drama and entertainment to the town in early November. Join David and his crew of talented, local actors as a series of terrible incidents with deadly outcomes, unfold before your eyes. The popular walking play weaves through the streets of Aylesbury’s old town, as you help unravel the Mystery of the Market Town Murder.

Tickets are limited to 50 per show, last year’s tour; "Ghouls and Villains" was a sell-out. Tickets £4.50 available from Aylesbury Visitor Information Centre. Contact 01296 425678 or r.mayhew@aylesburytowncouncil.gov.uk.

The Taming Of The Shrew

Following their unique interpretation last year of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Immersion Theatre return with their latest offering: William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

The time is the swinging sixties. London is quickly gaining worldwide attention for setting trends and creating icons; the battle of the sexes rages against a backdrop of money, music and beauty - in a place where seduction and exclusivity are the words of the day.

In the shadows, a side step away from the excitement and glamour, three criminal dynasties are drawn together as suitors vie to woo and wed the wealthy daughters of gangland powerhouse Baptista Minola. The catch? The eldest is as vicious as the youngest is beautiful. What follows is a riotous struggle for love and power. Tickets £15, adults. Senior, friend/keeper, student or child £13.

Buy 10 tickets get 11th free. Call 01491 575698.

11 November, 7.30pm, Kenton Theatre, New Street, Henley.

The Magic Word

Let’s All Dance presents a ballet for children. The beautiful Forest Queen lives in a magical forest. In the summer, the Queen loves dancing in the warm sunlight, but in the winter she becomes cold and hungry.

One day she decides to visit the Forest Elf, on the other side of the wood, who has food and a warm cloak. The Queen is rather spoilt and does not know how to ask nicely - but once she learns ‘The Magic Word’, she discovers the beauty of sharing and the joys of true friendship. Following their sell-out shows at the Kenton last year, Let’s All Dance returns with another gorgeous, classical ballet.

Children will again be enchanted by the magical dancers, stunning costumes and crystal clear story-telling. With themes of kindness, good manners and friendship, this is a heart-warming tale, specially suitable for 3-9 year olds.

Tickets: Adult £13, Senior, Friend/Keeper, Student £11, Child £10, Family £40. Buy 10 tickets get 11th free. Call 01491 575698.

Beaconsfield Theatre Group present Flare Path by Terence Rattigan

It is the autumn of 1941. In the Falcon Hotel, RAF pilots and crew relax between bombing raids on Germany. Their wives are with them and share brief moments of companionship and peace.

The pilots put a brave face on the unpredictable situation of war and beer and banter relieve some of the tension. Some of the questions raised in this funny, yet moving play - will Patricia choose her brave pilot husband over her old lover, a fading matinee idol? Will the Polish Count survive the next raid? Will Maudie's young rear gunner husband return safely? Rattigan himself served as a tail gunner in a Wellington bomber and beautifully captures the forties small talk and the deeper emotions that lie beneath.

To book tickets (£12, concessions £10) call 07880 962514 or visit www.btg-theatre.org.

12 to 15 November, 8pm, The Beacon Centre, Holtspur Way, Holtspur.
