Villagers will be struck with a “kaleidoscope of the arts” next month as the two-week long Cookham Festival returns in a bid to provide entertainment for everyone – and raise money for charity.

Tickets are currently available for the festival, which will include a range of theatrical and musical performances, as well as craft and cultural activities over the course of 15 days in May.

Organisers are hoping this event will be bigger than ever before with a number of venues already planning to be involved in the large event.

As well as singing, music clubs and art events, this year the festival will also have a focus on the centenary of the First World War.

In particular, visitors will be able to see the impact of the conflict on Cookham and of the loss of the brave men who gave their lives to the war and whose names are recorded on the Cookham War Memorials.

The event will start on Saturday, May 7, and will end two weeks later on Sunday, May 17.

As in previous years, the festival will be rounded off by a gala concert, this year featuring the Cantorum Choir, the area’s leading chamber ensemble, and soloists from both the English and Welsh National Operas.

Over the course of the events, visitors can also enjoy a night of comedy, a taste of jazz, or try their hand at cartooning, pottery and watercolour painting, in a variety of activities taking place in the Festival Arts Hub in the Parish Centre.

Local eateries and restaurants are also joining in the fun with special menus and enticing offers for the revellers.

Cookham Festival chairman, Malcolm Stork, said: “We’re thrilled to be running the festival again.

“It’s a great community event, run entirely by local volunteers, with something for everyone.

“As usual, proceeds from the festival will be donated to a range of local charities, to help support the community who make the festival what it is.”

The box office for the event opened last week with tickets still available from Stationery Depot, Station Parade, Cookham Rise, SL6 9BR.
