A man from Beaconsfield who has “never even baked a biscuit” will appear on TV in a cooking competition tomorrow (Monday, April 25).

ITV’s The Chopping Board is a one-week competition headed by top chef Rosemary Shrager and Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite.

Atul Sharma, 53, is an engineer who dabbles in acting, having appeared in Spectre, Mission Impossible and the Bollywood movie Fan. He tells me about his interest in cooking: “It has been a hobby at home, it keeps my family amused. I like to try my hand at different cooking styles.”

His partner on the show is his friend Bharat Mistri, he tells me: “We had fun cooking lots of different recipes, stuff I was capable of doing, likes crab and prawns, but baking was new to me; I’ve never even baked a biscuit.”

Atul moved from New Delhi to London at the age of three, going on to live all over the UK as well as in Austria and San Francisco, finally settling in Buckinghamshire 15 years ago.

The Chopping Block will air on ITV on Monday, April 25, 3pm.
