Television favourite, Debra Stephenson, is set to join the cast of a new musical featuring the sounds of former High Wycombe songstress, Dusty Springfield.

The team behind Son of a Preacher Man has announced that Bad Girls and Coronation Street star Debra will create the role of Alison in the heartwarming new musical, joining Diana Vickers in the 2017 tour.

The actress and comedian, 45, is best-known for her long running roles in Coronation Street and Bad Girls, whilst her entertainment credits include The Friday Night Project, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, Comic Relief Does Fame Academy and Let’s Dance For Sports Relief.

As a comedic impressionist she is known as star of BBC One’s The Impressions Show, with her other credits including BBC Radio 4’s Dead Ringers as well ITV’s Newzoids.

She is set to take to the stage in High Wycombe as the show comes to the Wycombe Swan for one week starting on November 28.

Based on the story of The Preacher Man, a swinging 1960s Soho joint where the legendary The Preacher Man himself dispensed advice to cure the loneliest of hearts, the musical will bring alive the music of Dusty Springfield.

The singer, whose greatest hits include I Only Want to be With You, rose to fame in the 1960s and became an icon of that era, but before her meteoric rise to stardom, the artist lived in Sands.
