Dear Kaye,

My wife has started working late with no extra pay. When I said it was ridiculous, she insisted that everyone in the office has been doing more hours & she had no choice... it’s that or lose her job to someone who will.

I feel suspicious but don’t want to make accusations until I’m sure, but I think she is going to meet someone after work. What should I do?

Alan, 33, High Wycombe.

Dear Alan,

I understand your concerns but I don’t think you should jump to conclusions, there are many people doing just this at the moment to ensure they hold onto their jobs.

Why don’t you meet her from work one evening & take her for a meal. You can mention you want to treat her as she is working so hard & at the same time satisfy your curiosity that there are indeed people working late.

If this is the case, then support & understanding are needed while you wife works these extra hours for no reward.

Good luck Alan,

Kaye.
