THE SERENE surroundings of the stately Cliveden House estate were transformed into a sea of music and colour last night for the second night of the annual Cliveden Rocks festival.

After The Magic of Abba and Robbie Williams tribute He’s the One entertained crowds on Friday, thousands of revellers turned out in the evening sunshine to witness tribute acts Utter Madness and Queen B.

With picnic chairs and champagne corks as far as the eye could see, the crowd took to their feet as Suggs and co stormed onto the stage to the sound of ‘One Step Beyond.’

Brightly coloured wig sales were strong in the packed arena, with friends and families letting their hair down for some uniquely Madness-esque dancing moves.

The original Madness tribute act rattled through the band’s impressive roster of rocksteady beats, and even gave the crowd a surprise treat with covers of Blur’s Parklife and Desmond Dekker’s Israelites.

As the sun set, headliners Queen Bee lit up the stage in the typically flamboyant style of their heroes, with a blast of fireworks greeting the Freddie Mercury look and soundalike Peter Jackson.

Dressed in Mercury’s signature white trouser and yellow jacket combination, he had the audience in raptures with his call-and-response signing stunts and teased onlookers with just the first chorus of Bohemian Rhapsody early on.

The set hit a snag when a technical failure forced a five minute break, but the rockers came back with force to play hit after hit until the close.

And in true Cliveden Rocks style, the night was brought to a spectacular end with a fireworks display illuminating the grounds of the National Trust-owned Taplow mansion.

The festival is sponsored for the seventh consecutive year by estate agents the Frost Partnership, and this year features a new experience, Cliveden Swings, which closes the three-day festival tonight.
