AS Britain looks forward to a (hopefully) bright few months ahead, Beaconsfield personal trainer Scott Marsh of Xcelerate Fitness shares his top five tips in attaining your dream body this summer:

Despite a wintry welcome to British summer time, many of us are in a position where we are preparing ourselves for days in the park, strolls along the beach and for those lucky people an exotic trip to a warm, foreign destination.

With approximately 8 weeks to go before Britain bares all, for those interested in creating the ‘wow factor’ with their ultimate beach body this summer, time is of the essence!

1. Dedicate Yourself To Your Cause – With only 8 weeks, every single day counts. Adherence is the key to any fitness program so help yourself along by marking down the days on a calendar, scheduling your workouts in advance and planning your meals ahead of time. There is no time for a slip in dedication!

2. Prepare In Advance – The biggest issue many people face is that life’s unexpected responsibilities, when push comes to shove take the place of your fitness regime and nutrition schedule. This doesn’t have to be the case. Creating rituals is the key to many of my client’s successes. One great example would entail setting one evening aside for food preparation for the week ahead. You can get multiple pans on the go and freeze and refrigerate your meals ensuring you are prepared for whatever life has to throw at you.

3. Commit To Your Training Regime – Tell yourself and others what you are going to do each day to edge you closer to your goal. Post it on Facebook, send it in a text message, and discuss it at lunch. Whatever options you choose make yourself accountable for sticking to the plan you have set yourself. What is worse than letting yourself down publically?

4. Focus on high intensity activity – For realistic body composition change I would recommend training about 3-5 hours per week. Your workouts should be intense and sweat inducing. I recommend focussing your efforts on heavy strength work and interval training using designated periods of sprinting and recovery on your favourite piece of cardio equipment.

5. Be Active In your Daily Life – A sedentary lifestyle will compromise metabolism and lead to fat gain. Try to take regular brisk walks at multiple occasions throughout the day, take up a new sport after work, park at the other end of the car park, get off the bus a stop early, take the stairs instead of the lift: These are just some easy tactics to get more activity into your day.
