The Drawingroom in Chesham was host to the musical talents of two bands: Her Name is Calla and Snowapple.

Usually a five piece band, Her Name is Calla was represented by solo artist Tom Morris. Occasionally assisted by Adam Weikert of the same band, Tom’s passionate vocals and easy stage manner kept the audience well entertained.

Her Name is Calla released their latest album, The Quiet Lamb, in November 2010, and will be touring with the full band in Sheffield later this month.

Visitors were then treated to the haunting melodies of Dutch trio Snowapple. Una, Laurien and Fanny blend their voices with skill, ranging from quiet ballads to operatic trills.

They also play a variety of instruments, from keyboards, guitar and violin to glockenspiel and empty beer bottles.

Snowapple performed songs from their debut album, released 2013, while performing new material for the first time live for an upcoming second album. They are touring the Netherlands this month.

Caretaker of the Drawingroom Richard Elkington looks after his guests, providing blankets on an unusually chilly night. He has a keen talent for selecting hidden jewels among music.

When encouraged for an encore, Snowapple unplugged their instruments and came into the crowd itself, playing a waltz as guests danced around them. The easy, joyful atmosphere of the evening was of a kind that is rarely found.

Richard Elkington promises more musical talent in future events that can be found at the Drawingroom website: the-drawingroom.co.uk
