WHEN Sam Duckworth unleashed Chronicles of a Bohe-mian Teenager it revived the spirits of us aged agit-poppers, gladdened by the presence of a young man with a guitar, a conscience and a nice line in emotional intelligence. Searching For the Hows and Whys does nothing to dent that enthusiasm.
The production is bigger, lusher, better. The subject matters hone in on bad-natured sex, grotesque consumerism, rampant fundalmentalism, as well as the heartfelt romance of I Could Build You a Tower. The Children (Are the Consumers of the Future) has been around for a while but has matured into a polemic groove; while Kate Nash crops up on the charming Better Things, as does Billy Bragg on Keep Singing Out and Could've Seen It All brings the album to an epic finale.
